Theo báo cáo của tổ chức Y tế thế giới (2023), tình trạng hiếm muộn có thể gây ra căng thẳng và những khó khăn về tài chính, ảnh hưởng tới sức khỏe tinh thần và cảm nhận hạnh phúc ở người gặp phải. Đối với những người trải qua hiếm muộn, dù nguyên nhân xuất phát từ nam giới hay phụ nữ thì sự hỗ trợ tình cảm từ người bạn đời đóng vai trò quan trọng và có ảnh tới sự hài lòng cuộc sống của họ. Nghiên cứu này được thực hiệntrên 284 khách thể được kết luận là hiếm muộn nguyên phát (gồm 173 phụ nữ và 111 nam giới, độ tuổi từ 21 tuổi đến 51 tuổi) đang điều trị tại Bệnh viện Sản Nhi, tỉnh Quảng Ninh. Hai thang đo được sử dụng là Hỗ trợ tình cảm và sự hài lòng cuộc sống kết quả chỉ ra các khách thể báo cáo nhận được sự hỗ trợ tình cảm từ người bạn đời tương đối tích cực và sự hài lòng cuộc sống ở mức trung bình khá. Đáng chú ý, sự hỗ trợ tình cảm từ người bạn đời dự báo ảnh hưởng tích cực đến sự hài lòng cuộc sống ở người trải qua hiếm muộn. Bên cạnh đó, kết quả nghiên cứu cũng ghi nhận sự khác biệt về giới tính trong vai trò dự báo mức độ hài lòng cuộc sống ở nhóm khách thể này.
