Bệnh lây truyền từ động vật sang người (zoonotic diseases) gây nên những hiểm hoạ về sức khoẻ toàn cầu vì có thể dẫn đến các đại dịch nếu không được quản lý chặt chẽ. Sự xuất hiện của bệnh lây truyền từ động vật là một quá trình phức tạp và được cho là có nguyên nhân từ các quá trình dịch tễ, sinh thái, và xã hội ở các cấp độ khác nhau. Trong những năm gần đây, cách tiếp cận Một Sức khoẻ - One Health approach, nhấn mạnh sự phụ thuộc lẫn nhau của các yếu tố nhân y, thú y và môi trường, đồng thời khuyến khích hợp tác đa lĩnh vực và liên ngành trong kiểm soát bệnh lây truyền từ động vật được đề cao. Bài viết này khái quát một số đóng góp của xã hội học trong nghiên cứu các thực hành sản xuất và các nhân tố xã hội gắn với bệnh lây truyền từ động vật sang người. Bài viết cũng khẳng định vai trò của xã hội học trong việc định hình các chính sách y tế công cộng, các chiến lược truyền thông và gắn kết cộng đồng để nâng cao nhận thức về bệnh lây truyền từ động vật sang người và khuyến khích thay đổi hành vi.
