Trong bối cảnh hiện tại, ngày càng nhiều người trưởng thành gặp khó khăn trong việc hòa nhập và lựa chọn rút lui khỏi các tương tác xã hội như một cách để bảo vệ bản thân khỏi tổn thương. Nghiên cứu này được thực hiện nhằm tìm hiểu thực trạng rút lui xã hội, tính nhạy cảm với sự từ chối và mối liên hệ giữa hai biến số này. Nghiên cứu khảo sát 688 khách thể trong độ tuổi từ 18 đến 30 bằng phương pháp điều tra bằng bảng hỏi. Kết quả cho thấy trong các phân loại rút lui xã hội, số lượng người rút lui xã hội do nhút nhát là nhiều nhất (13,4%) và phân loại rút lui xã hội do không hòa đồng có mức điểm trung bình cao nhất (M = 3,68; SD = 0,87). Dữ liệu cũng cho thấy hơn một nửa số lượng khách thể nhạy cảm với sự từ chối ở mức từ trung bình đến cao (52,2%). Đặc biệt, tính nhạy cảm với sự từ chối có mối liên hệ thuận chiều với chiều cạnh rút lui xã hội do nhút nhát. Cụ thể những cá nhân có tính nhạy cảm với sự từ chối cao thường có mức độ rút lui xã hội do nhút nhát cũng ở mức cao. Ý nghĩa của các kết quả và hạn chế của nghiên cứu được thảo luận nhằm gợi mở cho các hướng nghiên cứu trong tương lai.
