Nghiên cứu được thực hiện nhằm đo lường mức độ đau khổ tâm lý của người bệnh ung thư bằng công cụ Nhiệt kế đau khổ (Distress Thermometer Tool Translations, 2023), đồng thời xác định mối liên quan giữa một số vấn đề sức khỏe thể chất và mức độ đau khổ tâm lý ở người bệnh ung thư điều trị tại Bệnh viện Ung bướu Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh - Cơ sở 2. Nghiên cứu cắt ngang trên 164 người bệnh ung thư điều trị từ tháng 06 - 09/2024, sử dụng bộ câu hỏi có cấu trúc. Kết quả điểm đau khổ tâm lý trung bình là 4,13; SD = 2,82 cho thấy nhóm người bệnh có sự đau khổ tâm lý ở mức độ vừa phải. Đặc biệt, nghiên cứu tìm thấy sự khác biệt có ý nghĩa thống kê (p < 0,05) khi người bệnh có mức độ cảm nhận cơn đau càng tăng thì mức độ đau khổ tâm lý càng tăng; người bệnh có thay đổi thói quen giấc ngủ; mất ngủ liên tục hơn 1 tuần; có thay đổi thói quen ăn uống; mệt mỏi, uể oải; tê nhức tay chân; có thay đổi hoặc mất khả năng hoạt động thể chất thì mức độ đau khổ tâm lý cao hơn so với nhóm còn lại.
