This paper presents an overview of both domestic and international studies on the relationship between gratitude and mental health. The method employed is a synthesis and analysis of 62 relevant publications published between 2003 and 2025, drawn from reputable books, journals, and academic institutions. The results indicate that: (1) Research on the relationship between gratitude and mental health is primarily approached from the perspective of Positive Psychology, in which gratitude is regarded as a psychological protective factor that enhances positive emotions, subjective well-being, and reduces psychological issues such as anxiety and depression; (2) The studies predominantly use quantitative designs, including randomized controlled trials and mediation and moderation analyses, to evaluate the effectiveness of gratitude interventions in improving mental health; (3) There remain research gaps in terms of sample diversity across age groups, experimental control designs, gratitude education, culturally appropriate measurement/ evaluation tools for the Vietnamese context, expansion of related variables, and the development of comprehensive research models. Based on this review, the research team proposes several directions for future studies on gratitude and its relationship with mental health, aiming to contribute to the enhancement of effective and sustainable school mental health.
