Giai đoạn vị thành niên đóng vai trò quan trọng trong quá trình phát triển cá nhân, đặc biệt với hai nhiệm vụ trọng tâm là hình thành bản sắc cá nhân và định hướng tương lai. Nhận thức được sự cần thiết của việc xác định các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến định hướng tương lai, nghiên cứu này được thực hiện nhằm khảo sát tác động của bản sắc cá nhân đến định hướng tương lai ở học sinh trung học phổ thông. Nghiên cứu được tiến hành trên 260 học sinh lớp THPT (lớp 11 và 12), trong đó nam chiếm 34,2%, nữ chiếm 63,1% và giới tính khác chiếm 2,7%. Thời gian khảo sát từ tháng 1/2024 đến tháng 4/2024. Dữ liệu được thu thập bằng thang đo Bản sắc của Rosenthal và cộng sự (1981) và Bảng câu hỏi Định hướng tương lai của Seginer (2009), bao gồm ba khía cạnh: định hướng sự nghiệp/nghề nghiệp, định hướng học vấn và định hướng hôn nhân và gia đình. Kết quả phân tích cho thấy bản sắc cá nhân có mối tương quan thuận chiều, có ý nghĩa thống kê với định hướng sự nghiệp và định hướng học vấn. Đồng thời, giữa định hướng sự nghiệp và định hướng học vấn cũng có mối tương quan thuận có ý nghĩa thống kê. Tuy nhiên, không tìm thấy mối liên hệ có ý nghĩa thống kê giữa bản sắc cá nhân và định hướng hôn nhân và gia đình. Phân tích hồi quy xác nhận rằng bản sắc cá nhân có tác động tích cực, thúc đẩy định hướng tương lai ở các khía cạnh sự nghiệp và học vấn.
